Cochrane in Brief

New tutoring service at Cochrane Public Library

The Cochrane Public Library now has a new tool for virtual learners. The Library has just purchased new software called BrainFuse, which provides online tutoring for students and support for adult learners. Students studying Alberta’s K-12 curriculum can access tutoring services from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Included in the service is BrainFuse JobNow, a service designed to support every step of the job search process. Online coaches are available to assist in resume/cover letter preparation and help users prepare for interviews. BrainFuse will be made available to all library patrons or from any computer with an Internet connection starting Wednesday (Oct. 28).

Town Council to address traffic in virtual broadcast

Cochrane Town Council will unveil its plans to address the community’s traffic concerns on Thursday (Nov. 5) at 7 p.m. via a virtual live stream on the Town’s Facebook page. Mayor Jeff Genung will be broadcasting live from the Cochrane RancheHouse to update the community about Council’s plans to address traffic congestion in Cochrane. Traffic is a longstanding issue in the rapidly growing community, and on Oct. 9, Genung announced that Town Council would be unveiling “special construction initiatives” to address the chronic congestion.

Cochrane Food Survey

The Town of Cochrane is hosting a survey to collect data on Cochrane’s eating habits. Cochrane is a diverse community with diverse food needs, and the survey hopes to collect information that will allow the Town to address those needs. The goal of the survey is to better understand underlying strengths, weaknesses and opportunities within the community to improve food security. The survey is a partnership between the University of Calgary Nursing Program and Cochrane Family and Community Support Services.
