Keith Johnson, a new Cochrane resident, spent $600 worth of PC Points at the local Shoppers Drug Mart to support the Eagle's Nest Shelter in Morley on Dec. 1.

A Cochrane newcomer spent 600,000 PC Optimum Points at the local Shoppers Drug Mart to spread some holiday cheer at a nearby women's shelter.

Keith Johnson, who just moved from Penticton, B.C., in mid-August, brought with him a tradition.

He, with help from his daughter-in-law Claire, saved up PC Points and purchased $600 worth of products for women at the Eagle's Nest in Morley.

Johnson coordinated with management at the store and the director of Eagle's Nest Shelter to get an idea of what was needed. Then he, along with two representatives from Eagle's Nest, got to shopping.

"We had a ball," he said after the Dec. 1 shopping spree.

"We got baby essentials, women's essentials and even some gift sets," Johnson said, singing the praises of head cashier, Bonnie.

"She made the numbers work," he said with gratitude.

Last year, Johnson donated $600 to the South Okanagan Women in Need Society using his points.

"I have strong compassion for women and children involved in domestic abuse situations," he said. "I have real trouble with that."

The Eagle's Nest was unable to provide comment before the time of publication.
