COCHRANE— A minister who attended the Jack Tennant Memorial Bridge has tested positive for COVID-19.

A statement released by the Town on Wednesday (Oct. 21) states Minister of Municipal Affairs Tracy Allard has recently tested positive for COVID-19.

Allard attended the grand opening of the Jack Tennant Memorial Bridge on Thursday (Oct. 15)

Politicians who attended the event include Airdrie-Cochrane MLA Peter Guthrie, Minister of Transportation Ric McIver, Mayor Jeff Genung and members of Town Council.

Those who were in close contact with Allard, including members of Town Council and staff, have been notified and are following all Alberta Health Services (AHS) protocols for self-isolation and testing.

If you believe you may also have been in close contact with Allard during her visit to Cochrane call 811.

AHS has not contacted the Town regarding Allard's positive COVID-19 diagnoses and are taking steps to proactively follow all AHS protocols to mitigate any impacts of this potential exposure.

The Town of Cochrane provided a statement to The Cochrane Eagle regarding Allard testing positive for COVID-19.

"In preparation for this outdoor event, the Town followed all Alberta Health Services COVID-19 protocols which included all participants being required to wear masks and to physically distance (chair spacing), during the ceremony, as well as cleaning the microphone between presenters. As an outdoor event, the Town believes any risks associated with the possible transmission of COVID-19 were effectively mitigated," says the statement. "Several members of Town Council and the Senior Leadership Team however, may have been in close contact with Minister Allard at a pre-opening reception earlier that evening. As a proactive and precautionary measure, anyone in attendance of this pre-opening reception has been notified and are following all AHS protocols for self-isolation and testing."
