BRAGG CREEK— The Cochrane RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in a 45-year-old sexual assault case.

In the spring or summer of 1975, a resident from Bragg Creek, who was a minor at the time, was approached by an unknown adult on a dark coloured motorcycle with knobby tires near Burntall Drive.

The adult then invited the victim to go on a short drive which is when the offences occurred.

The adult on the motorcycle is described as a Caucasian male in his early 20’s, with longer brown curly hair.

The victim said the man spoke English with no discernable accent.

“Due to the age of this report it’s a difficult investigation,” said RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff. “What we’re looking for is trying to identify, number one, if there were any other victims that may have been targeted and had some similar MOs at that time—Just kind of a starting point. Obviously, these are challenging investigations We’re just doing our best to find anything additional that the public knows that can lead us in the right direction.”

Savinkoff noted that the report was made to the RCMP in late 2019, and has not yet progressed in any significant fashion, which is why the public is being asked to try and remember anything about the incident or the man on the motorcycle.

“We have fairly limited information to go off of at this time, so we’re hoping that people can look back into the past to see if there is anybody that they knew in the area that was a victim, or anything that they can forward to us that might help us with this investigation,” he said.

Anyone with knowledge of this crime, or a similar one, or any information regarding the identity of the male suspect is asked to contact the Cochrane RCMP detachment at 403-851-8000.

You can also submit a tip anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
