Cochrane Vision Theatre's show searches for local talent

With a few months remaining until the running of Cochrane Vision Theatre’s annual Variety Show, Cochranites should start rehearsing their talents now.

Whether you’re a singer, a musician, a comedian or something a little more unorthodox, all are welcome to sign up for the event, which will take place at the Cochrane RancheHouse.

“We’ll be showcasing the talents of local people,” said Lucy Mills, vice-president of the theatre group. “We’re encouraging anyone to sign up, and everyone should come down and see all the different acts offered in the area. It’s amazing who comes out.”

This year, the variety show will be held over two evenings. The first, April 26, will be for youth performers who are under 18. Adults will hit the stage on May 24.

“It’s not a talent contest, but we thought we’d let the younger performers have their own time to hit the stage without feeling any pressure to compete with established performers,” said Mills.

So far, Mills said she’s been contacted by a number of local talents, but is still on the search for more performers for both of the showcases. Fresh faces are welcome. So far, she said she’s expecting singers, fiddlers and a Bollywood-style dancer.

Last year, the event donated about 50 per cent of the proceeds to the Ronald McDonald House, but this year, Mills said the theatre committee was looking to support a local charity.

Currently, the group is considering donating to a trust fund in the name of deceased Cochrane teenager Brandon Thomas but Mills said nothing has been confirmed.

Tickets for each of the variety shows are expected to be $10.
