A Redwood Meadows contractor who last year pleaded guilty to violations of provincial licensing regulations has until the end of the month to respond to more allegations that he owes former clients approximately $400,000 in refunds that he is refusing to pay.

Service Alberta has given Kieron Warren until June 28 to respond to the complaints that relate to his operating the kitchen renovation business, KREATE Cabinets, in 2011 and 2012. Service Alberta investigators will then file recommendations to crown prosecutors.

Warren is currently under orders to repay former clients nearly $43,000 for home renovation work that he was hired to do but never completed. Those violations occurred between 2007 and 2010 when he was operating Hillcrest Renovations.

Warren appeared in Calgary provincial court Feb. 21, 2013 and was placed on probation for three years and ordered to return $42,914 to three victims. He must pay $1,200 per month and has until Dec. 31, 2015 to repay the complete amount.

Warren was also fined $8,000 by judge Heather Lamoureaux and pleaded guilty in 2012 to Fair Trading Act violations of operating without a contractor’s licence and failing to refund prepayments.

According to provincial standards, contractors who take advance payments are required to have a special licence allowing them to do so and must maintain a security fund to ensure clients get refunds for jobs that are cancelled or not finished.
