There are only a few days left to vote for Round 2 — the qualifying round — in the Aviva Community Fund contest.

With $1 million to give away to ideas that create positive impact within communities, Susan Flowers of Cochrane Family and Community Support Services has nominated the Cochrane CookHouse Food Connect program to get a piece of the pie.

The recipients of the grant monies will be selected through a process of online voting; the Food Connect program needs to reach 700 votes by Nov. 5 to move on to the next selection phase. Learn more at avivacommunityfund.org/ideas/acfl4825.

“The Cochrane CookHouse is launching a two-year project that will help to inspire our community to rethink where food comes from, how it is grown and what it means in our lives,” explained CookHouse manager, Tara Anderson.

“It will engage citizens by providing accessible and interesting courses, classes, talks and workshops on food preparation, growing and preserving, food security and much more.”

The proposed budget for the project is in the category of $50,000-$100,000. The program seeks to increase food security for at-risk households, while promoting better access to nutritious foods for the entire community.
