Deadline for Cochranites to fill out census forms only days away

It’s last call for Cochrane residents to get their information in to the town to have it included in this year’s census results.

It’s last call for Cochrane residents to get their information in to the town to have it included in this year’s census results.

Running from April 1 to May 5, letters with pin numbers were delivered to households between March 25-31 for residents to fill their form out online.

Those who did not fill out their forms online have been visited by one of 13 census workers looking to gather the information.

“Without the dedication, time and hard work of these folks it would be far more difficult for Cochrane to get accurate census data,” said Mayor Truper McBride.

Municipal census data is used by municipal and provincial governments, reflects the community’s growth and provides information for present and future planning.

Many local government grants are awarded on a per-capita basis, which means an accurate census is very important for communities to receive the appropriate amount of funding.

Results of this year’s census will be available by mid May.

As of April 29, 86 per cent of residents had filled out the census.
