Fatal motor vehicle collision reported in east Rocky View County

Preliminary investigation reveals that the Jeep crossed over the centre line into the path of west-bound travelling vehicles.

One person is dead and five others suffered minor injuries in a motor vehicle collision in Rocky View County on Feb. 19.

A motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving three vehicles in east Rocky View County claimed the life of one passenger and caused minor injuries to five others on Feb. 19.

The collision occurred at approximately 9 p.m., according to a press release from Alberta RCMP, when Strathmore RCMP officers responded to a reported MVC on Highway 1 and Garden Road/100 Street NE.

"Upon arrival, RCMP observed a Jeep on its roof and two other passenger vehicles with damage," the release stated. "The driver of the Jeep sustained minor injuries, however the passenger was deceased on scene."

The driver and sole occupant of a small passenger vehicle involved sustained minor injuries, as did two occupants of a second SUV involved in the collision, according to the release.

"RCMP remained on scene for several hours while they investigated the cause of the collision," it stated. "Preliminary investigation reveals that the Jeep crossed over the centre line into the path of west-bound travelling vehicles."

"We're still in the process of notifying next of kin," said RCMP Media Relations Officer Cpl. Troy Savinkoff, on Feb. 22. "The RCMP Strathmore detachment, as well as the CCIT...are still actively investigating this incident."
