Fatal Trans-Canada rollover under investigation

A 26-year-old Stoney Nakoda woman was found dead as the result of a single-vehicle rollover on the Trans-Canada Highway Wednesday (July 29) night. An RCMP investigation into the incident is ongoing.

STONEY NAKODA – Cochrane RCMP is investigating a single-vehicle rollover that resulted in the death of a Stoney Nakoda woman.

On Wednesday (July 29), Cochrane RCMP came across a single-vehicle rollover on the Trans-Canada Highway near Morley Road around 9:47 p.m. Upon investigating the scene, RCMP discovered a 26-year-old female from Stoney Nakoda deceased.

“Officers called EMS, but unfortunately as a result of the collision the female from Morley was found deceased … two others from the vehicle were injured, but they were treated with non-life-threatening injuries,” Cpl. Troy Savinkoff with the Cochrane RCMP said.

It is believed the woman who died was the driver, but the accident is currently under investigation, officials said.

“It is an unfortunate incident where a young lady is deceased … the RCMP would like to extend our condolences to the family,” Savinkoff said.
