UPDATED: Fire in downtown Cochrane

Fire under investigation

Cochrane Fire Services responded to a fire at Glamour Nails and Spa on Centre Avenue last night at around 9 p.m.

Allyssa Craven, district manager with Greatclips, said she heard about the fire on the Cochrane Rants and Rave Facebook group. She went down to the location and arrived to "seven" fire trucks in the parking lot, including an aerial truck, and the lot blocked off but the fire was out.

Craven said the fire, which was called in by an Opa employee, is still under investigation but she expects the salon to be closed until at least Tuesday or Wednesday.

She added all the businesses along the strip are closed today as the utilities to the building have been shut off.

"Right now, our hearts go out to the nail salon," she said.

Tommy Le, who manages Glamour Nails, which is owned by his sister, said they closed shop at around 7:30 p.m. last night and everything was fine.

"At 9:24 we got a phone call to tell us the alarm went off," said Le, whose shop employs six people.

He added investigators haven't told them the cause yet, but there is speculation the fire began in the ceiling. He added while he has not been able to gain entry into the business, from the outside he can see the damage is extensive.

As yet, he couldn't estimate how long the nail salon will be closed.

"I don't know what to do now," he said.

A fire investigator on the scene said a statement will be made once more information is determined.

There is no report of injuries.

We will have more details as they become available.
