Garage sale aims to fundraise for local cause

Boasting a selection of sporting goods, handbags and designer items, the fifth-annual Royal LePage Shelter Foundation is well on their way to achieving their fundraising goals.

“It’s Royal LePage’s national campaign, with the proceeds going to the organization’s Shelter Foundation,” said event organizer Debbie Phibbs. “We jumped on board with them.”

The sale, to be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 11 at Royal LePage Allstar’s 504-1st Street location, will be accepting garage sale donations until May 10.

All items will be accepted, said Phibbs.

What isn’t sold will be taken to a thrift store in Calgary. Early-bird attendees are discouraged.

The garage sale brings in some big ticket items, so Phibbs advised residents to bring their wallets. In the past, the sale featured a designer purse worth about $900, as well as top-notch acoustic guitars.

The foundation puts 100 per cent of the proceeds back into the community, said Phibbs.

Last year, the garage sale raised more than $2,200 for Cochrane Family and Community Support Services (FCSS).

“We earmark the contribution to be used specifically for women and children,” said Phibbs.

This year, the money will once again be contributed to Cochrane FCSS. The goal is to raise about $5,000.

Donations can be dropped off at the Royal LePage Allstar office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 6-10. Larger items can be picked up on May 9, but must be arranged with Phibbs before May 8.

For additional information, or to arrange for heavy item pick up, contact Phibbs at 403-437-2290.
