Cochranites whose homes were damaged earlier this year by flooding will be met with a sigh of relief. The Government of Alberta has given the thumbs up to Cochrane for disaster recovery funding to assist those with financial recovery.

Homes, businesses or property were damaged by overland flooding on June 21, 2019. Residents may now be eligible to receive some compensation.

The recovery program allows funding for uninsurable property damage, loss and other expenses sustained as a result of a natural disaster. Following the disaster, the affected municipality can apply for a disaster recovery program and once it is approved residents can apply for financial assistance.

Approved recovery programs for 2019:

Central Alberta Floods:

  • Yellowhead County
  • Town of Stoney Plain
  • Parkland County
  • Brazeau County

Slave Lake Floods:

  • Municipal District of Lesser Slave River No. 124
  • Town of Slave Lake

Rocky View County:

  • Rocky View County
  • Town of Cochrane
