‘Tis the season when everyone is thinking about festive meals and holiday baking.
While many are looking for recipes and stocking their pantry with ingredients, others in our community are worried about how to keep food on the table and kitchen cupboards full.
Cochrane’s Mark's No Frills on Fifth Avenue has launched their Holiday Food Drive. Until Dec. 24 the grocery store will be collecting nutritious, non-perishable food items as well as cash donations to help local residents. The donations will be collected by the Cochrane Activettes and will be distributed in the town through the Cochrane Activettes Food Hamper Program.
“As the winter closes in, and especially leading up to the holidays, there are many stresses on a household budget. Sometimes there just isn’t enough money for everything,” says Anita McFeeters from Cochrane Activettes Food Hamper Program.
“The No Frills holiday campaign comes at a perfect time each year to help make the holidays brighter for everyone, and to help local food banks, and our clients, get through the long months ahead.”
Last year the Holiday Food Drive at No Frills locations across Alberta donated thousands of pounds of non-perishable food to local food banks. Mark’s No Frills owner Mark Johnston said a recent food bank campaign - in cooperation with the Cochrane Activettes - raised more than a $1,000 for the local food bank.
Johnston and the Cochrane Activettes wants this year’s holiday campaign to beat last year’s record.
Those interested in participating are welcome to drop off donations at Mark's No Frills in the yellow grocery cart at the front of the store.
