Named the headlining performer of the marquee concert, to be held May 11 at the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre (SLSFSC), James is slated to hit the stage at 8 p.m. for his up close and personal performance.

James will be joined on stage by a guitarist for the duo format performance, said Kelly Phelan, marketing manager for the trade show. Details on who will be joining him will be released closer to the performance date, she added.

“This isn’t big-band Colin James, this is intimate, up-close performance Colin James,” said Phelan.

A varied artist, the six-time Juno award winner first broke into the music scene with his rock guitar, mentored by American musician Stevie Ray Vaughan. Since then, James has tried his hand at pop, rock, blues and big band. Currently, the singer is promoting his latest album — his fifteenth — aptly named Fifteen, which was released last year.

Tickets for this intimate performance are $47.50.

Warming up the trade show crowd for James’ Saturday night performance is Friday night’s performer Don Ross, also playing at the SLSFSC.

A renowned Canadian guitarist, Ross has twice won the U.S. National Fingerstyle Guitar Championships, in both 1988 and 1996. The competition is judged on technique, but also on emotion and intensity. Tickets to his performance are $30.

Ross will also be hosting a guitar workshop during the 2013 Cochrane Guitar Show, which will be running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in conjunction with the trade show in the soccer field of the SLSFSC on May 11.

Tickets are $30 and include entrance to the show and Ross’ workshop.

All tickets include entry into the trade show. A weekend pass can be purchased for $99, and includes access to all three of the aforementioned events. Tickets go on sale April 6 at noon online at legacyguitarhouse.com or in-person at the Legacy Guitar and Coffee House. For more information, dial 403-981-1808.

The 2013 Cochrane and District Chamber of Commerce Trade Show will run May 10, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and May 11 from 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
