Motorcyclist struck on Highway 22, Fireside intersection dies

Update: the 64 year old male motorcyclist involved in the collision earlier today succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on scene. The condition of the 78 year old female driver of the car is unknown.

A collision involving a motorcyclist has taken place at the James Walker Trail/Highway 22 intersection. It is believed to be serious and drivers are asked to avoid the intersection, if at all possible.

Update: the 64 year old male motorcyclist involved in the collision earlier today succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead after being transported to Foothills Hospital.

The condition of the 78 year old female driver of the car is unknown. 

Cochrane RCMP and emergency crews were on scene mid afternoon on Monday, July 15 responding to reports of an accident between a motorcyclist and a car.

The incident took place at the intersection at James Walker Trail and Highway 22 at 2:45 pm and resulted in traffic backlog and delays, including intersection closure for some time. 

The motorcyclist was heading southbound and the car northbound when the incident occurred, as the driver of the car turned west at the intersection and the motorcyclist struck the car. 

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
