Cochrane’s NAPA Auto Parts has set up a trust fund for the family grieving the loss of their toddler in a Calgary car crash that occurred last week.

Chris Bertrand, whose family was involved in a collision Dec. 18, is an employee of the local auto parts shop. Gerry Jackson, owner of the NAPA auto-shop, said Bertrand was the kind of guy who left a positive impression on everyone he met.

“Chris has touched a lot of people,” said Jackson. “It’s going to be financially challenging for him and his family. We had to do something.”

A RBC trust fund in the name of the family has been created and can be accessed at branches across the country.

Donations for the family have also been collected by an unrelated online fundraising campaign. As of Dec. 23, the LegUp.ca fund has collected more than $4,000.

Donations — monetary and otherwise — are being collected at the local auto shop.

The collision happened on Glenmore Trail in Calgary. The family’s Dodge Ram truck climbed over the median and into the lane of an oncoming semi truck.

The two boys were transported to hospital. Travis Bertrand, one, died as a result of his injuries.

Older brother Zachary, four, is in stable condition. Their mother was also taken to hospital and suffered minor injuries.
