Last Saturday (Dec. 7) the Cochrane RCMP municipal traffic and general duty officers conducted numerous checkstops in and around the Cochrane area. The initiative was part of the RCMP's National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.

The RCMP checked more than 200 vehicles and arrested and charged one person with impaired driving.

"I am hopeful that impaired driving is on the decline in our community," said Acting Cochrane Detachment Commander Staff Sgt. Dave Brunner.

"However, even one incident of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is too many.  We will continue our efforts toward education, prevention, and enforcement for as long as necessary until impaired driving stops."
