New locale for annual Pickin' Party

With a line-up of musicians from Cochrane and Morley, the Nakoda Cochrane Pickin’ Party Music Jam is back for it’s ninth annual festival.

This year, the Pickin’ Party is joining forces with the Arts and Culture Foundation of Cochrane Art Festival, and will take place along Main Street at Centennial Plaza. The first musicians are set to begin playing at approximately 2 p.m., Sept. 28.

“We’ve tried a lot of different locations in the past,” said Gary Lefebvre, a committee member for the music initiative and owner of Phantom’s Music. “We think this one could be a perfect location. Combined with the arts festival, this will be a plus for us.”

The two-and-a-half-hour-long party will launch with a traditional drumming circle and opening prayer, led by the master of ceremonies Dwayne Wesley. Wesley, a Stoney Nakoda First Nation resident, is slated to perform later in the event, as is Mary Rollinmud. The line up of Cochrane performers include Kaitee Dal Pra, the Woolly Buggers, and Lou and the Pig Pen.
