Old vehicles needed

An upcoming training session has Cochrane Fire Services putting out a call for your old vehicles.

With a three-day course in motor vehicle collision training slated to begin March 9, deputy fire Chief Gary Barnett said the detachment is on the search for about six old, unneeded cars to help up-and-coming firefighters learn the ropes.

“Anything that anyone has that still looks like a car is what we’re looking for,” he said, noting the vehicles should have windows and wheels still intact. “We can help out by coming to fetch them for you.”

The deadline to donate the cars is March 6, but Barnett said he would be willing to accept vehicles as late as March 8.

For the training exercise, the cars will be set up in a few different scenarios for young firefighters to safely put the rescue tools to use.

Afterwards, Barnett said the vehicles will be taken to the scrap yard to be properly disposed.

To donate a vehicle, contact Gary Barnett at 403-851-2545 or [email protected].
