Poker tourney supports Fleury's Victor Walk

The Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino will be playing host to Theo Fleury and his Orange Movement initiative during the Victor Walk Charity Fundraiser Poker Tournament.

Slated to run April 7, the event will support Fleury as he and his team set out to walk the more than 450 kilometres between Toronto and Ottawa to raise awareness of child sexual abuse. The Orange Victor Movement aims to turn victims into victors through advocacy and healing.

Fleury himself will be at the resort and casino from 10 a.m. to noon for a meet and greet session, said Chris Grimes, the sales, catering and marketing coordinator for the Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino. The poker tournament is scheduled to begin around 2 p.m.

“There will be a minimum of 33 seats available at the poker tournament,” he said. “We’re hoping if enough interest is generated that we can have up to 88 players. There are still seats available.”

The buy-in for the tournament is $100, plus a $10 administration fee. If participants want to buy extra poker chips, a $50 add-on will be available during the first part of the game.

Seats for the event can be reserved, but Grimes said registration will take place prior to the start of the tournament on April 7.

There will be door and cash prizes available to be won, said Grimes. As well, he said 10 per cent of all food and beverage sales April 7 will be donated to the cause.

For more information on the tournament or to pre-book a seat, call Chris Grimes 403-881-2836 or [email protected].

The Victor Walk will be starting May 14 at the Child Abuse Monument in Toronto, ending at the steps of Ottawa’s Parliament at noontime on May 23. The exact details of the Victor Walk route have yet to be confirmed, according to the charity’s website.
