Cochrane residents should expect to see an increased RCMP presence on the roads this weekend leading up to Thanksgiving long weekend.

Starting Friday, October 11th Cochrane RCMP - in partnership with the Cochrane Integrated Traffic Unit - will be conducting Checkstops throughout the Cochrane area. The effort is aimed at targeting impaired drivers.

Representatives from "Show your Ride for Brandon" will also be present. Brandon Thomas was a local 17-year-old who was killed by an impaired driver in 2012. Brandon's family and friends are passionate about the cause and regularly participate in awareness and education relating to the dangers of impaired driving. The Cochrane Victim Services Unit will also be present throughout the long weekend.
