A family in West Bragg Creek have lost their home following a large house fire on the early morning of Sept. 16.

The fire drew the response of multiple Rocky View County (RVC) Fire Service crews, as well as emergency service members from Redwood Meadows.

According to Redwood Meadows fire chief Rob Evans, firefighters were dispatched to Wild Rose Close, west of the hamlet of Bragg Creek, just after 5 a.m. this morning to battle a large blaze at a single-family residence.

“We’re all volunteers, and we actually have a couple of members who live in the same subdivision,” Evans said. “They were reporting that the fire was well engulfed, right after we were paged out for it.”

Other attending crews came from RVC Fire Service’s Elbow Valley, Springbank and Bearspaw stations. According to Evans, the multi-crew response was necessary due to the lack of water to draw upon otherwise in the remote setting.

“Because we do have to bring our water with us in the rural setting, the trucks that came – especially Bearspaw – it was just their water tender,” Evans said. “They came to supply water.”

Evans said the fire engulfed the entire house, which he added will be a complete loss.

While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, he said all the occupants of the home were able to make it out safely and no injuries were reported.

“Obviously, our thoughts are with the family that lost their home this morning, but it was great teamwork with the two different fire departments,” he said. “It [speaks] to the professionalism of our volunteers and the paid firefighters with Rocky View.”
