Three local dance studios made Cochrane proud with their participation in Dance Invasion, a dance competition held at Springbank’s Edge School for Athletes April 26-28.

Snap Dance Studios, Eurhythmics Dance Studio and Bearspaw’s King Edgar Dance Studio brought their A-game to the annual dance contest, which featured dancers and routines from 14 studios.

Snap had 65 routines entered in the dance competition, with more than 120 dancers attending. Courtney Sproule, the studio’s director, said the studio went home with eight high gold medals (for scoring 90 or more on a routine), 27 gold medals (for scoring 85-89), 25 high silver medals (for scoring 83-84) and five silver medals (for scoring 80-82).

Snap had three routines continuing on to the Dance Invasion Dance-Off in the evening of April 28. The junior hip-hop routine, called We Got This, walked away with a second-place finish overall for the junior routines. Jazz routine, Come True, placed fourth overall for the Intermediate I division, while hip-hop routine, Fifth Element, placed third overall in the same division.

The dancers of Jodi Aasen’s Eurhythmics Dance Studio also left the dance competition with a slew of medals. With about 85 dancers performing 20 different routines at the festival, the studio left the event with 10 gold medals, eight high silver medals and two silver medals.

Eurhythmics had one routine continue on to April 28’s dance-off finals. The hip-hop routine — called Bane’s Reckoning — ranked first overall in the Intermediate I level.

Dancers from King Edgar Dance Studio ranked first overall in the Novice level with Grease Lightning and second in the Intermediate II/Advanced category with Stomp! The Night Away.
