Cochranites line up to get their vote in for the Federal election.

If you want to steer clear of the busy lineups on Election day (Oct. 21) advance polls are now open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Cochrane Lions Event Centre for the next four days.

To vote in the federal election you must provide your identity and address. What you will need to have present with you in order to vote fall under three categories.

  1. Show a piece of ID: Driver's licence or any other card issued by the Canadian government which shows your name, photo and current address.
  2. Show two pieces of ID: Both must indicate your name and at least one must have your current address. This could be a voter information card and a bank statement, a utility bill and student ID card.
  3. If you don't have ID: You are still able to vote although you have to declare your identity and address in writing and have someone who knows you and who is assigned to your polling station vouch for you. This person must be able to prove their identity and address. One person can only vouch for one other person.
