Cobra soccer girls lose appeal

Cochrane High School will not be this year’s Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA) South Central Zone varsity girls soccer champs.

Cochrane High School will not be this year’s Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA) South Central Zone varsity girls soccer champs. The school lost an appeal to the ASAA of its varsity girls soccer team’s disqualification at the South Central Zone tournament Oct. 12-13 in Carstairs.

The Cobras girls were DQ’d late in the tourney for playing junior-varsity (Grade 9) girls in a varsity (Grades 10-12) tournament.

“We lost the ruling and we are disappointed in the ruling but we are looking at our options,” said Cobras varsity girls soccer coach Carolyn McLeod. “If there are no other appeal processes available to us, we will proceed with a motion to have Grade 9 girls included in the SCZ championship tournament.”

The Cobras went undefeated in high school soccer play this season, including a 4-0 record at the Zone tourney before being disqualified.
