Cochrane Generals pocket another home win to take series lead

A shutout from Generals Davyn LaRocke and hat trick by teammate Connor Stephenson in Game 3 puts Cochrane up 2-1 in the series

The Generals' home-ice advantage is so far playing to the team's favour in their best-of-seven series against the Red Deer Vipers.

The Gens lost 3-5 in Game 2 in Red Deer March 5 after winning the series opener, but made a swift comeback at home the following day.

In two out of three games in the Heritage Junior Hockey League North Division final, the team has had heavy fan support to help boost them to two wins out of the Cochrane Arena.

Gens goalie Davyn LaRocke finished Game 3 on March 6 with a shutout after blocking a total of 28 shots on goal and centre Connor Stephenson scored a hat trick and had one assist to lead their team to a 5-0 win.

Of the six penalties Red Deer had throughout the night, Cochrane capitalized on four of them, despite having more than twice the amount of penalties themselves.

Defenceman Evan Black and assistant captain Tristan Ripplinger scored the team's two other goals.

The two teams meet again March 8 for Game 4 in Vipers territory and will return for play in Cochrane March 10 at 7:45 p.m.

The Generals currently lead the series 2-1 and need two more wins to secure the north and move on to the league final.

In the south, the Okotoks Bisons lead their series against the Medicine Hat Cubs 3-0.
