Generals march into November with two wins

After a mediocre October, in which the Cochrane Generals carded one win in six games, the team has steamrolled into November with two straight victories. The Generals downed the Banff Bears 9-4 Nov. 3 in Banff after edging High River Flyers 7-6 Nov.

And, with eight of their last nine games on the road, head coach Ken Soloski is looking forward to some home cooking.

“Everybody wants to see our own people in the stands instead of everybody else’s,” Soloski cracked.

He also said the Generals added 20-year-old forward Tyler Collins to the roster. Collins scored 21 goals and added 26 assists in 36 games last season with the Beaver Valley Nitehawks in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League. And his addition appears to have sparked the Gens’ forward ranks, even though the left-winger has yet to point as a General.

“That was Tyler’s first two games in the lineup,” Soloski said of the new recruit’s instant chemistry with the Generals. “He looked good. We’re quite happy with him.”

The Generals are home for a Hockey Night in Cochrane Saturday-nighter against the Okotoks Bisons Nov. 10 at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre, 7:30 p.m. faceoff.
