The St. Timothy’s Thunder JH Track & Field team contested their City Championships on Thursday, June 6 at Glenmore Athletic Park. The day started out as hot and dusty, but cooled as the day went on, with scattered showers and conditions deteriorating the Thunder athletes persevered and came up with some outstanding results. The Junior High Track & Field saw 22 athletes compete in their respective disciplines, and the team came away with 17 medals, averaging nearly a medal an athlete and tying a previous school record set in 2018.

The team saw two gold medals on the day, with Holly Moores winning the Grade 9 Girls 800m in dominating fashion and Brendan Macguire finishing first in grade 8 boys shot put. Both these athletes won multiple medals on the day. The Thunder relay teams continued to impress as well, with three out of four of the school’s relay teams reaching the podium.

Thunder Track & Field continues to develop and blossom under the tutelage of an enthusiastic and competent coaching staff, supportive parents, and a student body that is prioritizing Athletics as a worthy pursuit more and more every year. Watching these athletes succeed is a testament to the commitment all of these stakeholders have shown over the past ten years of building this program from the ground up.
