Piranhas win 72 medals at Regional Championships

The Cochrane Piranhas swam this past weekend in the Alberta Summer Swimming Association (ASSA) Region E Championships in Calgary after an amazing weekend.

In order to qualify for provincials the swimmers had to place first or second in their event at the Regional Championships which given that Region E has a reputation for being a fast region is not easy.  In addition to the two swimmers per region (six regions in total) that qualify for Provincials an additional four spots are available for the four fastest swimmers from the Regional championships province wide (known as Wildcards). Following is a summary of the results for both individual qualifiers and wildcard swimmers for the Piranhas:

·        -  Isabella Barreto-Waringer placed third in the 50 metre free and second in 400 metre free.

·         - Natalie Barreto-Waringer placed third in the 50 metre breast.

·         - Rylee Bashow placed second in the 50 metre breast and second in the 25 metre breast.

·         - Reid Boukall placed first in 25 metre back, second in 25 metre free and second in 50 metre free.

·         - Rylan Carnegie placed second in 25 metre back, second in 25 metre breast and third in 100 metre individual medley (IM).

·         - Sydney Carnegie placed third in the 400 metre free.

·         - Jacob Corcoran placed first in the 25 metre free, second in the 100 metre IM, second in 25 metre fly and third in 50 metre free.

·         - Eli Fitzsimmons placed third in 100 metre fly.

·         - Bryson Hammer placed third in 400 metre free.

·         - Kailuam Hill Van Hout placed third in 50 metre fly.

·         - Oliver Johnson placed first in 200 metre free, first in 100 metre IM, second in 25 metre fly and second in 50 metre fly.

·         - Ella Kruger placed third in 100 metre fly and third in 100 metre back.

·         - Max Kruger placed third in 200 metre IM, third in 100 metre breast and third in 50 metre breast.

         - Levi Lewko placed second in 200 metre free.

·         - Teryn Lewko placed second in 25 metre fly.

·         - Jade Macosky placed second in 100 metre fly, second in 800 metre free and second in 1500 metre free.

·         - Bria Michalski placed first in 100 metre fly, second in 100 metre breast, third in 100 metre IM and third in 50 metre breast.

·         - Sarah Pawliuk placed second second in 25 metre back and third in 25 metre free.

·         - Josie Powers placed second in 50 metre breast.

·         - Caebri Smith placed first in 50 metre free, first in 100 metre free, second in 50 metre back and second in 200 metre free.

·         - Aaron Swedlo placed first in 200 metre free, second in 50 metre free, second in 400 metre free and second in 100 metre free.

·        -  Catherine Swedlo placed second in 50 metre free, second in 200 metre free, second in 400 metre free and second in 100 metre free.

·         - Eric Swedlo placed first in 100 metre breast, first in 200 metre free, first in 400 metre free and first in 50 metre breast.

·         - Evan Thibodeau placed first in 25 metre breast, first in 50 metre back and second in 50 metre breast.

 

In addition to the above the following swimmers have been wildcarded to attend provincials based on their times:

·         Ben Barclay will swim in the boys 13 and 14-year-old 100 metre free and 50 metre free events.

·         Jake Barclay will swim in the boys 15-17-year-old 50 metre free, 50 metre back and 100 metre back events.

·         Natalie Barreto-Waringer will swim in the girls 13 and 14-year-old 100 metre breast .

·         Rylee Bashow will swim In the girls nine and 10-year-old 100 metre IM and 50 metre fly.

        Rylan Carnegie will swim in the boys seven and eight-year-old 100 metre IM.

·         Jacob Corcoran will swim in the boys seven and eight-year-old 50 mete free.

·         Bryson Hammer will swim in the boys 15-17-year-old 400 metre free and 50 metre back events.

·         Kailuam Hill Van Hout will swim in the boys nine and 10-year-old 50 metre fly.

·         Ella Kruger will swim in the girls 13 and 14-year-old 100 metre back and 100 metre fly.

·         Max Kruger will swim in the boys 15-17-year-old 50 metre breast, 100 metre breast, 200 metre IM and 100 metre IM.

·         Levi Lewko will swim in the boys 13 and 14-year-old 400 metre free.

·         Bria Michalski will swim in the girls 15-17-year-old 50 metre breast.

In Relays:

 ·         The girls 8 and under team of Teryn Lewko, Cadence Bashow, Mackinley Smith and Taya Hill Van Hout placed second in the 100 metre medley relay to earn a spot in provincials.

·         The girls 14 and under team of Ella Kruger, Josie Powers, Natalie Barreto-Waringer and Catherine Swedlo placed third in the 200 metre medley relay and were wildcarded to attend provincials.

·         The girls 17 and under team of Madyson Cheverie, Bria Michalski, Jade Macosky and Sydney Carnegie placed third in the 200 metre medley relay and were wild carded to attend provincials.

·         The girls and under team of Taya Hill Van Hout, Teryn Lewko, Cadence Bashow and Mackinley Smith placed second in the girls 100 metre free relay and will attend provincials as a qualifying team.

·         The girls 17 and under team of Jade Macosky, Madyson Cheverie, Danica Richter and Bria Michalski placed second in the 200 metre free relay to earn their spot at provincials.

·         The mixed 12 and under team of Isabella Barreto Waringer, Kaitlyn Eiserman, Isaac Thibodeau and Aaron Swedlo placed third in the 200 metre free relay to win a bronze medal and have been wild carded to attend provincials.

·         The boys 8 and under team of Reid Boukall, Evan Thibodeau, Jacob Corcoran and Rylan Carnegie placed first in the 100 metre medley relay to earn their way to provincials.

·         The boys 17 and under team of Jake Barclay, Eric Swedlo, Max Kruger and Bryson Hammer swam their way to second place in the 200 metre medley relay and earned a spot at the Provincial Championships.

·         The boys eight and under team of Evan Thibodeau, Rylan Carnegie, Reid Boukall and Jacob Corcoran swam to a first place finish and their spot at provincials in the 100 metre free relay.

·         The boys 17 and under team of Eric Swedlo, Max Kruger, Bryson Hammer and Jake Barclay won gold in the 200 metre free relay and will represent the Piranhas at provincials.

·         The mixed 10 and under team of Caebri Smith, Rylee Bashow, Oliver Johnson and Kylan Morin placed first in the 100 metre medley relay to earn their spot in the provincial pool in Edmonton.

·         The mixed 12 and under team of Isaac Thibodeau, Isabella Barreto Waringer, Kaitlyn Eiserman and Aaron Swedlo placed second in the 200 metre medley relay and are headed North for provincials.

·         The mixed 10 and under team of Caebri Smith, Rylee Bashow, Kylan Morin and Oliver Johnson placed first in the 100 metre free relay and earned their spot at provincials.

·         The mixed 14 and under team Ben Barclay, Natalie Barreto-Waringer, Levi Lewko and Catherine Swedlo placed second in the 200 metre free relay to earn their way to provincials.

The swimmers continue to train with coaches this week before heading North on Aug. 16 to attend the multi-day event.
