School hockey fundraiser pits Bow Valley against Cochrane High

The long-standing Cochrane Classic Hockey Game between the two high schools will support the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank

Local high school students are getting ready to lace up their skates for a good cause next week.

The 17th annual Cochrane Classic Hockey Game, where Bow Valley and Cochrane High students face off in support of a local charity, makes its return after a year-long hiatus.

"It's a game between the two high schools to bring us together and bring the community together — it gets everyone involved," said Grade 10 Bow Valley student Sierra Heier, who is part of a leadership group at the school.

This year, the event will support the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank through player pledges and spectator donations.

Cochrane High's team will be made up of Grade 12 students primarily, said Heier, while Bow Valley is selecting their roster based on who is able to fundraise the most for the game.

In keeping with tradition, Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre is donating ice time for the event. The puck is set to drop at 4 p.m. March 23.

The cost for spectator entry will be $2 at the door and students will also be accepting donations for the Cochrane Activettes at the game.
