Special to the Eagle

The St. Timothy’s High School team competed in their sophomore season at the CSHSAA City Championships at Repsol Centre Tuesday, Dec. 3 and didn’t disappoint.

The team’s efforts were led by Bria Michalski, who repeated as City Champion in the 50m breaststroke. Silver medals were earned by Koover Schmidt in the 25m butterfly and Catherine Swedlo in the 50m Freestyle. The team also boasted relay teams for the first time in school history. Our boys' 4x 25m freestyle relay team of Brenek Spademan, Jack Bentley, Will Maxwell, and Koover Schmidt won the team a bronze medal.

The Thunder swim team saw 11 athletes compete at City Championships (Isabelle Goosney, Jacob Mate, Emily Carvalho, Makenna Myatt, Bria Michalski, Koover Schmidt, Jack Bentley, Will Maxwell, Brenek Spademan, and Trevor Goodram). This was a big increase in numbers from seven competitors in our inaugural 2018 season. The school is ecstatic at watching the growth of this program. The Cochrane community is full of good swimmers and Thunder athletics is proud to be able to provide this service to our students.

All our swimmers made huge progress throughout the season, and we applaud them for showing up every morning for our 6 a.m. practices. Our relay teams worked hard on their own time as well to improve as much as they could before City Championships. Coaches Cummings, Cornish, and Swedlo would like to congratulate the Thunder swimmers on a fine season. Thunder Athletics would also like to extend a huge thank you to Coach Amy Swedlo, who has been instrumental in getting this program off the ground. She has selflessly come in as a community coach and really helped turn the school program into of the best teams the school has to offer.

Great job swimmers on a fine season!
