The Cochrane Generals will be playing for their first Russ Barnes Trophy at the Provincial championships this afternoon at 2 p.m. in Wainwright, Alberta.

Patrick Forde gave the Generals the go-ahead goal with just over a minute left in the semi-final game against the Sherwood Park Knights. It was the third time in the tournament that Forde buried a goal late in the third to break a tie for the Gens.

Right winger, Jamal Kalaf, netted the clincher with less than 30 seconds left, downing the Knights 4-2 in the semi-final match.

The Generals have been dubbed the cardiac kids by announcers at the tournament for their late third period tie-breaking goals throughout the tournament.

The Generals didn’t let adversity get them down. According to the team’s Facebook page, they had to vacate their hotel Saturday prior to the semi-final game due to a flood and electrical fire.

“We made sure that at all times the players were safe. They have been fed, and they will have a place to sleep,” read a Facebook post put up just an hour before the semi-final game on Saturday night.

The championship can be streamed online for a fee at HNLIve
