The narrow one-point defeat means that for the first time since 2011, the Cobras football players won't finish their season by hoisting the Alberta Bowl trophy.

Esther Sieben, who coaches Cochrane's senior girls' volleyball team, said the zones tourney produced her squad's best performances yet this season.

"We were getting outgunned a little bit, but we fought back big time," McNab said of the Hollywood-inspired second-half comeback.

Cochrane's minor football teams' 2022 seasons wrapped up earlier this month. The Cochrane Lions peewee (U13) team ended their fall season on a high note, by winning the Calgary Peewee Football Association's (CPFA) Div. 3 championship Nov.

Cochrane High School's volleyball players enjoyed a successful night on Nov. 9, with three of four Cobras teams winning the Rocky View Sports Association (RVSA) divisional banner.

As their results showed, the 2022 season will likely be remembered as a rebuilding year for the Springbank Phoenix high-school football team.

Bella Geremia, an 18-year-old student-athlete from Springbank and a 2022 graduate of the Edge School for Athletes, recently wrapped up what was a successful, drama-filled first season on the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) women's soccer team. 

More than one-third into the 2022-23 Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL) regular season, the Cochrane Generals inflicted the first loss of the campaign on the dominant Okotoks Carstars Bisons Nov. 5.

"The regular-season games are one thing, but when it comes to playoffs, people are hungry. They want that championship trophy in their hallway, and they want those T-shirts.

“Honestly, it’s been difficult to practice away from our home field during the construction process,” Knitter admitted. “But we’re excited to bring football back to Cochrane High School. It’s something we’re looking forward to, whenever it happens.”
