Bruna Ferris

We are sad to announce the death, in Calgary, of our amazing Mom, Bruna Ferris, March 15, 2022 after a lengthy illness.

Her life was one of resilience and creativity that began with her birth September 19, 1942 in Trevisan, Italy. Bruna was the seventh child in a family of eight. They all arrived in Canada in 1954 and settled in Guelph, Ontario. Bruna married Bryan (deceased Calgary 2014) in 1962. Daughter Kim (Bill) Calgary, and son Troy (Michelle) Victoria completed the family in 1964 and 1965.

Bruna’s creativity and skills with her hands were already known. She launched a long, successful career styling the hair of many satisfied customers, especially after the family moved to Alberta in 1979. She finally retired at age 68, and added real estate broker to her repertoire for five of those years, working both careers at once. Bruna and Bryan designed and built two homes by themselves in the Cochrane area. Besides installing kitchen cabinets and floors, Bruna upholstered furniture, designed and sewed clothes, knitted, painted in different forms, sculpted, gardened and pursued whatever attracted her curiosity. She was interested in energy healing, the use of herbs to improve health, meditation, drumming circles and almost anything to do with ancient Egypt. She named her little dog Isis.

Besides her daughter and son, Bruna leaves to mourn her passing, four grandchildren: Sydney and Jacob (Kim and Bill), Denby and Quentin (Troy and Michelle) great-granddaughter Ellery, and sisters Ida and Lucy in Guelph. She was a beautiful, elegant, confident woman who always made us feel loved and cherished. We are blessed and thankful to have had her with us for 80 years.

The family is grateful to the staff at Scenic Acres Rivera and Bethany Riverview for their kind and loving care of Bruna over the past few years as her health declined. A private family service has been held. A gathering of friends in honor of Bruna’s life will take place at a future date.

Bruna loved children. If anyone would like to make a donation in her memory, the Children’s Cottage or the Mary Dover House in Calgary are suggested.
