Peter William Newsom

Peter William Newsome, 75, of Cochrane, Alberta, was called to heaven after a short but courageous battle with cancer on November 6, 2021.  He was born May 17, 1946 to Frank and Mary Newsome of Bearspaw, where they had a dairy farm.  He attended Bearspaw and Glendale schools then the family moved to farm 3 ½ miles southwest of Cremona in 1968.  He married Susan Yazlovasky on October 9, 1971 and they enjoyed 50 wonderful years of marriage.  Together they took over the family farm where they raised their family while continuing to farm, raising cattle, chickens, and growing various crops.  Peter also drove the school bus for 27 years before retiring and moving to Cochrane.

Peter loved everything about the farm life and enjoyed passing on this love and knowledge to his sons and later his grandchildren.  He enjoyed riding horses, hunting, camping, fishing and just being outdoors riding the quad with his family.  Peter was a member of the Cremona Ag Society, Pine Slopes Ranching Association and the Bearspaw Historical Society over the years.  Dad was a strong, quiet man with a witty sense of humor who loved his family dearly.

Peter was predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary, and half brother Norman.  He is survived by his loving wife Susan, and three sons:  Rob (Cyndi), Tim (Cheryle), and Shawn (Ashley); his granddaughters Delanie & Robyn Newsome, step granddaughter Bree Baskin, and grandsons Ray & Jonah Newsome; sister Evelene (Neil), brothers Fred (Lucy), Ken (Linda), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no ceremony as per Peter’s wishes and the family request that any donations made in Peter’s honor go towards the Agape Hospice or the Cancer Society.

Condolences may be left for the family at www.cochranecountryfuneral.com.
