Growing can at times be a pain

I just kinda get it figured out and they change everything. Well, not everything, but most things and it’s all about the mighty Cochrane Eagle. The reason for all this is our new press.

I just kinda get it figured out and they change everything.

Well, not everything, but most things and it’s all about the mighty Cochrane Eagle.

The reason for all this is our new press.

As you’re well aware, we sold the mighty Eagle to Great West Newspapers last June and one of the benefits was a new press that Great West promised.

Well now it’s a reality and what a press it is.

It’s about three stories high, is totally computerized and there’s only three in the world and one is ours.

We’re not there yet, but with the new press our page size changes a tad, we have a new program for laying out the paper and it’s all quite a challenge.

Those two items have been completed for this issue and in about four or five weeks we should be printing in St. Albert on the new press.

Until then, our paper will not be stapled. But once we’re at the new press the staples will return, so bear with us on that one.

The biggest change will be publishing days. We’ll move to a Thursday publication rather than the present Wednesdays, and there’s a few reasons for this.

It means we’ll print the same time as our sister Canmore paper and that certainly makes economic sense.

It also makes us more of a weekend paper and I think that’s a good thing.

As a journalist it means we’ll have much more time to cover Monday night town council meetings and rather than trying to get all the information quickly on a Tuesday we will now have an extra day to do a more thorough job.

Which means an interesting few weeks ahead of us, but the saving grace is that our problems will be solved by folks who know, and not I.

But just bear with us because at the end of the tunnel we will be better and it will be worth the wait.

Ah, the joys of computers.

By next week we’ll have all this in line...I hope.
