With the holiday season upon us, it’s a great time of year to connect with family and friends. Whether you are staying in Cochrane for the holidays, or travelling to connect with loved ones, I would like to wish you and yours a safe and happy holiday season. Personally, I think the holidays are an important time to reflect on how fortunate we are. Last week, I had the opportunity to ride the CP Holiday Train from Calgary to Cochrane. In the 20-year history of the CP Holiday Train, the program has raised more than $14.5 million and gathered more than 4.3 million pounds of food for communities along CP’s routes. The event is a great way to kick off the holidays and fill the shelves at local food banks. This year, the program raised more than $4,000 for the Cochrane Food Bank. This past weekend, our local Kiwanis Club hosted the Toy Project. This event provided 55 local children and youth the opportunity to choose their own holiday gift at our local Wal Mart with the help from the Cochrane Generals. The kids were also treated to face painting, balloon animals and photos with Santa. The generosity of our community was also evident this past weekend at Stuff-A-Bus. This event, organized by the Cochrane and Area Events Society, gathers food, clothing and gifts for the Cochrane Activettes to provide to more than 200 Cochrane families in need. On behalf of myself and council, I would like to thank Canadian Pacific Railway, the Cochrane Kiwanis Club, the Cochrane and Area Events Society, the Cochrane Activettes and all of our local community associations who have made special efforts to ensure no one goes without this holiday season.
