Mayor's Column: Keep up the good work, stay calm and keep on

Thank you Cochrane! The efforts we are putting into flattening the curve are working.

Thank you Cochrane!  The efforts we are putting into flattening the curve are working.

By staying home as much as possible, practicing physical distancing when out, washing hands and adhering to Alberta Health Services guidelines we are doing our part to fight back against COVID-19. All of Cochrane can be proud of the collective work that we’ve done to prevent the spread.

While each case should be taken very seriously we have relatively few. As of April 21, the Cochrane/Springbank region has 15 cases, 11 have recovered, leaving only 4 active cases. Given that the Calgary zone has the highest number of cases in Alberta it is amazing we have been able to hold off the virus as well as we have. While each case should be taken very seriously we have relatively few. For up-to-date information please visit alberta.ca and follow the links to cases in Alberta, the geospatial link provides our current area case count.

This is great news, however we must remain vigilant and continue to adhere to AHS guidelines and restrictions. The harder we push now the sooner we can all return normal. I know staying at home isn’t easy but it doesn’t mean we have to hibernate. The weather is gorgeous, get outside and enjoy all Cochrane has to offer. Just remember to keep 2.0 m away from others, step off trails to allow others to pass.

Be Kind. Stay Home. Save Lives.

Best health,

Jeff Genung
Mayor
