Railroading next presentation for Voice of the Pioneer series

Session four in the very successful Voice of the Pioneer series looks at early railroading. On May 27 in the Seniors on the Bow (SOTB) auditorium featured speakers are Dennis Apedaile CNR A.V.P. (retired) and Doug Campbell CPR A.V.P. (retired).

On May 27 in the Seniors on the Bow (SOTB) auditorium featured speakers are Dennis Apedaile CNR A.V.P. (retired) and Doug Campbell CPR A.V.P. (retired).

They will address key events in the history of railroading in Canada, including initial National Rail Policy from 1867-85, effects of the 1929 Canadian financial crash and more. Refreshments at intermission. Advance admission is $4 and $5 at the door. All interested public are welcome.

Other May events:

• May 27 at 1:30 p.m. — “Becoming Jane,” an historical drama about author Jane Austen.

• May 21 golf cart tours begin at Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park. These run from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays. Cost is $20 for a two hour tour. Register at 403-930-9000.

• May 23 at 2 p.m. – coffee and conversation with Mayor Truper McBride.

Book club meets May 24 at 2 p.m. to discuss Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal? by Jeanette Winterson. June’s book is the second in the Hunger Trilogy, Chasing Fire.

• Foot Doctor visits May 27 at 8:30 a.m. Call Dorothy at 403-851-0812 for an appointment.

June events begin with a fashion show and tea in the auditorium at 2 p.m. Jockey Person to Person clothing is featured. Charge is $10. The public is invited.

The theme for Seniors Week is “Creative and Inspiring.” From June 3-8 drop in programs at SOTB will be free.

Programs will proceed as usual except for Zoomer Zone on June 3. It will be pre-empted by Grand Avenue Pharmacy free pancake breakfast at 9 a.m. At 10 a.m. guest speakers will address how to live your passion throughout your lifetime, all in the SOTB Auditorium.

A display of blood cell analysis by Pepita from Grand Pharmacy will be available. Also on Monday at 1:30 p.m., the hilarious comedy, “The Quartet,” will be presented.

Other events that week include:

June 4 at 11 a.m.: cultural cooking class by local restaurant Thai Ozon.

No charge but space is limited so please pre-register.

June 5 at 11 a.m. Ian Kruger from Grand Pharmacy will speak on digestive issues.

The Drop In Centre will be closed at 1:30 p.m. that day for the annual seniors tea at Cochrane RancheHouse. No charge but tickets must be picked at the Seniors Drop In Centre or FCSS.

June 6 at 7 p.m. Cochrane Youth Choir will entertain in the auditorium. No charge. The public is encouraged to register in advance.

Pub Friday is June 7 at 2 p.m. in the auditorium with entertainment and games, and a cash bar.

June 8, zone playoffs for 55 Plus happens with horseshoes at 10 a.m. at Lion’s Park, tennis at noon at Glenbow Courts and bridge at 2 p.m. at SOTB.

The current Yoga With Judy sessions will conclude June 11 and June 14. Summer yoga will start June 18 with instructor Marian.
