They say the heart of a community is a place where people can get together and share a common goal.

Well, my friend Robin Mitchell certain provides the location. Robin is the general manager of the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre located along the banks of the Bow River at the east end of Cochrane.

Over the years the facility has been the site of numerous sporting, music and arts functions. Just two weeks ago it hosted the annual Cochrane Ringette tournament, while upstairs, on the running track, was the Farmers Market. I’ve been involved in several amazing events at the centre including a Guinness World Record for the longest game of indoor soccer and, in January this year, the largest game of hockey ever played.

Since 2010, I’ve been having my annual Marathon Quest 250 run/walk, and Robin and his team have been totally supportive of the event. This year the bouncy castles are back. Also, raffles will be held for a Chariot Jogger stroller, a signed photo of the Maple Leaf’s Phil Kessel and a beautiful Right To Play quilt.

Come on out, kids bring your parents, get some exercise and help children around the world.
