Unanimous consent

The proposed aquatic/curling centre has gone from a cost of $54 million to $45 million in a matter of weeks. A little tweaking can apparently go a long way.

Despite this reduction, several councillors remain concerned over the price tag, as do some residents.

Since when does a project need 100 per cent consent for it to go forward and be a worthwhile endeavour?

In Cochrane, at times, it can certainly feel that way.

We may not have Ipsos Reid conducting a scientific survey, but if they did, what would it reveal? Perhaps that 60 to 70 per cent of Cochranites want this pool in the community. There surely are indications that point toward that.

Isn’t that how a democracy works? Majority rules.

If there’s a fairer way for council to decide what the community should have, let us know.
