It seemed to be flying over Cochrane like a giant eagle heading toward new horizons. The “eagle” was, of course, a bold cloud formation in one of the most spectacular sunsets I’ve ever seen above our beloved Alberta foothills.

Every year, I try to read at least one book that is nominated for the Scotiabank Giller Prize for fiction to see what the literati of the book world are reading. This year, I chose If I Fall, If I Die by Michael Christie.

And we feared it would never end. But it soon will, and once again Canadians will have elected hundreds of politicians to sit in Ottawa and do whatever the bureaucrats tell them. That’s our system and it’s here to stay.

It’s almost budget time for our council. Everything we have in our 10-year plan must be reviewed, revised and reconsidered as far as timelines, costs and commitment.

Well, it’s been over four years, and it’s time to say goodbye.
