Vern Raincock has thrown his name in the ring as the confirmed Alberta Party candidate for the Airdrie-Cochrane riding.

Raincock, with an extensive professional/business background ranging from supply chain management to the craft brewing industry, puts the slate of candidates for voters in the riding up to four: Pete Guthrie for the UCP, Steve Durrell for the NDP and Matthew Morrisey for the Freedom Party."

Let's seize the moment. Our provincial situation must change… we need to innovate and expedite. Our approach at the Alberta Party is realistic and focused on outcomes." said Raincock, who lives in Airdrie.

Raincock said there is a "strategic urgency" required in the province to get the economy back on track and he feels the Alberta Party is the most balanced option to lead the charge.

With respect to the Airdrie-Cochrane riding, Raincock highlights the region as a tourist hub and is supportive of investment in a heavy rail commuter transportation system to boost tourist and commuter connectivity.

"The Airdrie Cochrane riding should be viewed as a hub and the last port of call – the economic gateway to the world renowned the Banff Canmore eco-tourism corridor."

Raincock said he is also supportive of the NDP's 2017 announcement to build the interchange at highways 1A/22 – which would tie in with boosting the transportation network throughout the corridor.

Last week party leader Stephen Mandel announced platform highlights that include expanding health care coverage to include annual dental checkups for all children 12 and under, as well as doubling school support staff and boosting inclusive education.

Other party platform highlights include exempting homes, businesses, farms and non-profits from the carbon tax; improving efficiencies and fostering innovation in health care; improving relationships with Indigenous communities, including culturally acceptable boosts to senior and healthcare initiatives and fostering economic development; creating more affordable childcare for lower and middle income families; commitment to Francophone rights and the Chinese community.

“Vern is a great representative for the Alberta Party in Airdrie-Cochrane," said Mark Tayler, executive director of the Alberta Party.

"He’s a small business owner in the region and has been an advocate for our craft brewing industry. We are happy to have him join our full slate of 87 candidates."
