RED DEER COUNTY - A semi truck struck a pedestrian on Highway 2 near Red Deer Friday, forcing delays in traffic as emergency personnel responded.

On Dec. 1 at 3:18 p.m., Blackfalds RCMP said it received a report of a serious motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian and a semi truck on Highway 2 at Gasoline Alley in Red Deer County.

"The pedestrian was taken to local hospital and subsequently flown to Calgary in serious condition. The driver of the semi that struck the victim remained on scene," police said in a news release issued Saturday.

Police said details on the victim are not available at this time.

At 3:40 p.m. STARS air ambulance noted it had been dispatched to a scene call emergency in the Red Deer area.

The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continue, police said.
