ABBA/ Fleetwood Mac tribute show sells out for BGC

There were some tambourines and guitars, lots of dancing and good times.

There were some tambourines and guitars, lots of dancing and good times.  It was almost like Stevie Nicks herself was belting out “Rhiannon” – all while raising money for BGC Cochrane and Area (formerly Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane and Area and Cochrane Youth Association).

" Arrival, Canada’s Tribute to Abba/Dreams, the Ultimate Tribute to Fleetwood Mac" was a hit Saturday night at the Cochrane Lions Club and Events Centre.

The Vancouver-based band of six consisted of Tracy Masson and Karina Morin on lead vocals, Nathen Aswell on bass, Mario Parente on guitar, Todd McGarvey on drums, and Bob Van Velzen on keyboards.  Attendees were in the spirit – even dressing up as their favourite ABBA stars.

The sold-out show helped BGC raise the evening’s $20,000 goal. Executive director Jill Bilodeau passionately shared the organization’s fundraising recipe for events such as this – which generally consists of silent auctions, a 50/50 draw, and dancing everywhere – even between the tables.

All bar sales also went directly to BGC.

“People tend to think that Cochrane is affluent,” said Bilodeau. But she went on to say that there are many families who struggle here, and that she considers BGC an “essential service” in Cochrane.

“Our blood is green,” she stated, referring to the organization’s logo, colours, and initiatives.
