The Foothills Art Club 2024 Spring Show and Sale is scheduled to take place on April 20.

Cochranites can examine the latest pieces created by members of the Foothills Art Club at their 2024 Spring Art Show and Sale on April 20.

The exhibit will take place at St. Andrew’s United Church from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free and the event will feature a special door prize for one lucky visitor.

President of the art club, Jeff Mackenzie, said the various works by all their members will be on display and available for sale. For the first time ever, the club’s show and sale will also host a local theme.

“It’s – 'Visions of Cochrane,' with a sub theme this year being downtown Cochrane,” Mackenzie explained. “We’re going to have a selection from our artists that submitted items for a giveaway. It’s a door prize and we selected a really nice painting from one of our members, Karen Stienstra.

“There’s going to be a display with other paintings which are strictly tied to that theme of Visions of Cochrane, and then there’ll be other paintings as well.”

Since their return following the pandemic, Mackenzie said although there were some hiccups due to road construction along First Street, the support from the community has been excellent, and he looks forward to seeing community members visit their show and sale.

“We’re all always excited to have a show and sale event,” Mackenzie said. “It’s a chance to display our art to the community and get them included in it.”

Mackenzie added that another bonus from these shows is that it also connects new artists to join their club, while receiving feedback from the locals.

“It usually stimulates interest from now members who want to come and join the club,” he said. “We always get a lot of positive feedback from people in the community year-after-year, and it’s really satisfying and wonderful to us to get that feedback, and that everybody enjoys what we do.”

Mackenzie said he would like to give a very heartfelt thank you to everybody who comes out and enjoys the show and sale with the Foothills Art Club.

“We have a lot of volunteers, of course, that take the time to set the show up, invite the guests in, and be there to answer their questions and wrap up anything they want to purchase,” Mackenzie said. “There’s a lot of effort that goes in various ways, but it’s all kind of a joyous exercise because we enjoyed the feedback and we know the community enjoys what we present.

“So, we’re looking forward to it all.”
