With the cold, dark days of January up ahead, many of us are keeping our eyes focused on the bright side of things. Like the bright lights of the upcoming ATCO Gas Cochrane WinterFest
Held Jan. 25-26 at Cochrane Lions Rodeo Park, the now two-day event is well into its preparation phase.
This year promises new experiences for festivalgoers, said Brooks Tower, director for the Cochrane and Area Events Society (CAES), including an elaborate sound and lights show.
“We have about three-kilometres in lights and a 500 hay-bale maze,” said Tower about the Friday night addition to the third annual WinterFest. “It’s really going to be a treat for the eyes.”
“Knock on wood, the lights all work when we plug them in,” he added with a laugh.
Tower said to expect plenty of daylight activities as well, so bundle up the little ones and head down to the park to take in the log sawing, practice your bobsleighing technique, join in the WinterFest Fun Run or another one of the long list of activities.
To get a taste of what’s to come, residents can check out the WinterFest displays in both the Cochrane Movie House and the Spray Lakes Sawmill Family Sports Centre. Each features the creative snowmen constructed by local artist Marlise Rockwell of Soul Studio.
