The ink isn’t dry on the spring jamboree scoresheet and the Cochrane High School Cobras already have their late-summer, pre-season schedule mapped out. The Cobras host Grande Prairie’s St. Joseph’s on Aug. 29 before flying south for a Texas-sized football field trip that includes an exhibition tilt against the Groesbeck High School Goats.

“We’re getting off the plane and heading to Dallas Cowboys Stadium and getting the big tour,” said Cobras co-head coach and offensive coordinator Rob McNab. “Then we’re going out to Groesbeck and playing them on a Thursday night.

“They’re already really pumped up for having us. There could be 5-6,000 people at our game.”

From there it’s off to Midland, Tex., to catch a high school Friday-nighter where crowds exceed 10,000 people. The following day is a tour of Baylor University and a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Div. 1 football game.

“Then on the Sunday we’re back to Texas Stadium to watch the Cowboys and 49ers play. They’re going to be great hosts for us,” McNab said. “The kids are going to get a lot of football in. Bruce O’Neil does a masterful job with these things. They go off without a hitch every year. I don’t know how he does it.”

The Cobras return in time to kick off the Rocky View Sports Association Tier 3 football season.
