The Calgary Stampede might be the premier event around town, but the Dogpound rodeo, which will start July 16 at the Dogpound Rodeo Grounds, has been doing its thing for a few years longer and has some of the best local competitors in the business.
Celebrating its 109th year running, Dogpound brings in some of the best pro cowboys in the country, as well as a few from outside of Canada to compete for money and bragging rights.
Held by the Foothills Cowboys Association, the one day rodeo is set to start at noon July 16 — the event is held on the third Wednesday of July every year — and is located roughly 9 km past the Water Valley townsite.
